Patio Cover and Outdoor Living Services in San Angelo, TX

Eight things we build, each with its own page, its own price range and its own list of what tends to go wrong. The right one usually becomes obvious once you say what you want the space to do in July.

Choosing between them

Shade, shelter or a room

Most people arrive wanting shade and leave having decided something more specific. A pergola breaks the sun and lets weather through. A patio cover keeps you dry under a metal roof. A covered patio is framed and shingled to match the house and can carry an insulated ceiling. An enclosure closes it in, and at that point it starts becoming an addition.

The question that sorts it fastest is whether you want to sit out there in July. With 30 days a year over 100 degrees, that single answer rules out about half the options.

Questions

Things people ask before they start

Which is right for me, a pergola or a patio cover?

If you want to stay dry, a patio cover. A pergola breaks the sun but lets weather through by design, and people are regularly disappointed by that after the fact.

What is the difference between a patio cover and a covered patio?

A cover is a standalone roof, usually metal. A covered patio is framed and roofed like part of the house, normally shingled to match, and can carry an insulated ceiling and lighting.

Do all of these need a permit?

Anything over 200 square feet does in San Angelo. Outside the city it depends entirely on which community, and six of the 22 we serve have no building department at all.

Can you do more than one at once?

Usually cheaper that way. An outdoor kitchen built at the same time as the cover over it costs less than adding one to the other later, mostly because of when the utilities get trenched.

Not sure which one you want?

Describe the space and how you want to use it. We will tell you which of these actually fits, including when the answer is none of them.
